Design notifications for offshore renewables

The Offshore Infrastructure Regulator (OIR) has developed a brochure to help explain the design notification process for offshore renewables.

The intent of the design notification process is to allow a licence holder to receive feedback from the OIR at the preliminary stages of project design, prior to the detailed engineering phase for an offshore infrastructure project.

The brochure answers some key questions about the design notification process, including:

  • definition and purpose of a design notification

  • how design notifications are provided to the OIR

  • what must be included in a design notification

  • interactions between design notification and environmental approvals

  • consultation when preparing a design notification
